Ooh, Script Frenzy!

March already? I’m still scared, I’m still having doubts but I should’ve known that I’d get as enthusiastic as always. I found a OpenOffice document full of funny Screnzy slogans from last year and got swept into the interesting world of icon-making. I’ll probably be making more and post them here for your enjoyment.

I’m going to write a tv-script. I’ve watched relatively few movies, so the whole idea of a movie seemed kind of frightening. I don’t suppose tv-writing will be any easier, but I’m more familiar with tv than films. And then I accidentally got the idea: Green Wing meets school world. I thought I might ask a few friends to scetch one or two characters for me so it wouldn’t be just my dull imagination just writing my own teachers a little bit more odd than they already are.

There it is, pretty, isn’t it :D Now I’m going to go and browse the Screnzy forums and make some more icons (and read Oliver Twist and write the bloody essay…) but I promise more frequent updates from now on.

And while I’m at it, please let me recommend to you the excellent comedy series Green Wing (have I mentioned it earlier? Err…). It’s set in a hospital, but don’t make the mistake thinking it’s an ordinary hospital soap – it isn’t. Oh God, I wish I could write something half as funny.

Edit: I was a bit bored so I made a couple of SF-themed icons. Enjoy!

Day 11, Minister

Yesterday was a wonderful day at least numerically, I wrote over 2,700 words. Today was also a good one, though a bit slow, I’ve spent 2,5 hours writing 2,230 words. But anyway I hit the 20k line today, and as a reward I watched my all-time favourite Yes Minister episode Skeleton in the Cupboard. I don’t know how they’ve managed to write that episode the way that 70% of my YM jokes come from it.

(“God moves in a mysterious way.” “Let me make this perfectly clear: Humphrey is not God, OK?” “Will you tell him or shall I?”)

I do love that episode. Humphrey freaking out in the end :’D

And what is happening in NaNo?  My MCs Will and Elizabeth went to Will’s house and sat there through the night (I guess about four hours) waiting for the pouring rain to end. I hope I was able to create a bit of tension between them. Some philosophical thoughts appeared at least. At last they fell asleep in their armchairs but they woke up at 5am to hear that Will’s little sister had disappeared during the night.

Really, how could I spend 2,200 words on that? NaNo amazes me constantly :)

I really should do my maths homework and play the piano a bit before I call it a night.

Pathetic, I know

Less than 15 hours until the start-off of NaNoWriMo! I still have to write a couple hundred words of Steely, ’cause I didn’t really have time to write yesterday. I would have of course, but I was hunting for the best House M.D. intro music ever. Found it of course on YouTube, but I would really have liked to find an audio file. Well, you can’t get everything, but I really prefer that theme to the others. We of course don’t have the Teardrop intro, but the music was different in Season 1. I do hate the Season 2 intro music. What I am talking about is this piece of music. I know it’s not any longer than that, but I’d have thought someone had ripped it from the video or something. I found a link but alas, the site wasn’t working.

I really can’t wait for tomorrow. But now I’ve got almos two hours to win SC, so I guess I’ll be doing that. And then I was going to write a short Halloween piece but we’ll see what happens to that.

(And if anyone happened to have that House piece, please do tell me ^^)

a 1000 words call out through the ages

Wrote about 1,000 words of Steely today, so the total’s now something like 4,5k. I’ll make it, I swear, but my problems with maths won’t really help. And I don’t really like the story, today’s word count consisted mostly about a wizard telling about his history with a lady – a pairing I made up while playing Battle for Wesnoth.

The holiday’s almost over and no planning made for NaNo. Maybe I’ll get creative back at school. But I feel I’ve wasted my time and I’ve got to admit that I’ve been dealing a lot with my laptop. No more playing for me, doctor’s orders. But I watched one episode of Yes Prime Minister today and that was the therapy I needed. Humphrey-therapy I call it ^^
The Last Post thread! I should spend more time on the NaNo forums, but somehow I always end up blogging or something. Going now.

A tiger, a leopard or a puma

OME, everything seems to become a source of inspiration as November draws nearer. Last year I signed up for NaNo on the last days of October so I didn’t really get to participate in the pre-NaNo hysteria, but it was similar during November. I would be talking with my friends in a Swedish lesson and suddenly it strikes me: I must have an old lady, who occasionally forgets her language and starts speaking English or whatever. I liked the result, might post it some day.

This year I’ve already had some interesting conversations leading to:

  • monocle man (ladies & gentlemen: Monokkelimieeeeeeeees!)
  • executioner (this lacks all the glamour, it just came up ’cause I realised how funny the word ‘pyöveli’ actually is)
  • a guy living in serfdom, being a dark mage and screwing up all the time (rakkaat suomalaiset lukijani: tyyppi nimenomaan tyrii jatkuvasti ja siitä ei jousteta! Mutta mitä maaorjat tekevät?)

and I know I’ll get plenty of these stupid ideas and end up again with a non-serious novel. But who cares! Actually, the last page of almost all of my notebooks is dedicated for these ideas coming up during lessons.

As some people may have noticed, I’ve become totally hooked with the lovely British Heartbeat series (repeats now, so I’m watching the good old episodes). In today’s episode there was an old lady who was suspected of poisoning her late employer and her great-niece (and great-nephew-in-law). There were a couple of kids who thought the lady was a witch, so especially the first few minutes were inspiring (set in a cemetery). Now the ideas seem to be getting to me even from TV. (Moreover, the episode was very funny as Blaketon finally got rid of Inspector Crossley. The new inspector’s a woman though… Wonder how Blaketon will cope with her…)

No progress with Steely to mention, but I’ve started to put a 1,000 piece jigsaw together. It portrays the London Houses of Parliament at night (and it glows in the dark. Shiny!) and I’m about halfway through.
